If you’re a chocolate person, this Milo ice candy was made for you! You really haven’t experienced Milo in its full glory unless you’re ha a chance to enjoy it as an icy treat.
What is Milo?
Milo is a chocolate malted beverage that is extremely popular in the Philippines and MANY other countries around the world. It comes in powder form and can be enjoyed hot or cold when mixed with milk or water. Milo is commonly marketed as a nutritional energy beverage, being fortified with vitamins and minerals such as calcium and iron.
Despite being marketed as a nutritional beverage, this chocolate malt powder has managed to become an ingredient in a number of sweet treats such as pastillas, iskrambol and of course, ice candy. Its chocolate flavour makes it easy to add a kiss of chocolate flavour to any dish.
Can’t find Milo in your area?
Luckily, Milo isn’t the only chocolate malt powder on the market. Other brands like Ovaltine will work too!
Ice candy bags
These frozen treats are enjoyed in a small plastic tube that is filled with the mixture and tied at the top. Ice candy bags may be hard to come by if you live in Western countries like Canada and the U.S. I searched and searched for literal MONTHS and finally found a local seller on Facebook Marketplace. I have also found similar options on Amazon and eBay.
What makes ice candy so satisfying is their unique shape. They’re fun to eat and so easy to grab-and-go. To eat ice candy, bite off a corner on the bottom and enjoy all the chocolatey goodness.
If you’re not into using plastic, I recommend reusable options such as these ice pop molds I found on Amazon. A great sustainable option!

Ice candy is quite easy to make. These ice pop-style frozen treats can be made with fresh fruits, fruit juice, and more. Milo ice candy is typically made by combining Milo powder with milk and sugar but we’re doing things a little differently with this recipe but starting with a cornstarch base.
This is a method that some ice candy sellers use to create a softer result and one that I personally used when I sold ice candy. This extra step will make all the difference in the final result! The texture is like a cross between an ice pop and ice cream. So delicious, you’ll be happy you made them!
