This easy soft tofu a.k.a silken tofu, with soy garlic sauce is super quick to whip up and will satisfy all your umami cravings. This recipe is the reason why I always like to have a few blocks of tofu stocked up in the fridge at all times.
Growing to love tofu
I’ll admit it, I was never really a fan of soft or silken tofu growing up. It wasn’t until I grew older and my tastebuds matured, that I could really appreciate it for what it was. The beauty about tofu is that it’s like a blank canvas. It absorbs whatever flavours you decide to give it.
When I have busy days and just need to get something into my body, this is what I like to make. It’s packed with protein and when paired with something hearty like rice, it’s super satiating meal.
Easy recipe when you want something quick
This simple meal captures all the classic flavours of Asian cuisine with the garlic, ginger, and soy. The best part about it, is that there is no cooking required! You can have this ready in less than 10 minutes without sacrificing any flavour.
I prefer to have enjoy this dish cold but if you prefer things warm, you can steam the tofu for 5-8 minutes in a steamer basket. This can be eaten on its own but I love to have it with steamed rice because I always have some ready in my kitchen!
The perfect recipe for one
When I was in college, I had a habit of making way too much food when cooking. I’m all for leftovers but sometimes it would be WAY too much. What’s great about this recipe is that it makes the perfect individual serving size so you don’t have to worry about food waste. Cooking for more than one person or have a larger appetite? Feel free to double the recipe and use a larger block of tofu!
