The rise of the avocado
The avocado has had quite the come up over the past decade and it’s well deserved. Super creamy and versatile, it’s a fruit (yes, fruit!) that I love to have in my kitchen at all times. Nowadays I see avocado used primarily in savoury dishes but I want to put you on to the way I have grown to enjoy it.
Growing up, my Nanang (grandma) would always prepare avocado for my siblings and I in sweet dishes. This avocado shake is nothing short of deliciousness. If you’re on the fence about having avocado in a dessert, fear not! This recipe won’t let you down. With the creaminess of the avocado combined with the sweetness of the condensed milk, you’re really in for a treat.
Avocado shakes are pretty common around SouthEast Asia. My favourite Vietnamese restaurants usually have them on their menu along with so many other delicious flavours.
This isn’t your regular shake
It didn’t feel right to call this a smoothie, because it’s anything but. The great thing about this is that you don’t need ice cream or any other ingredients to make it rich and creamy. The avocado does all of the heavy lifting in this drink.
Don’t have access to fresh avocado?
If fresh avocados aren’t accessible to you, don’t worry! I have made this recipe using frozen avocado and it turns out just as well. I prefer the texture fresh avocado gives the drink but if you need to use frozen, that shouldn’t stop you from trying out this amazing shake!
If you’re into THICK shakes, this is the recipe for you! If you prefer your shakes on the thinner side, add more milk to get your preferred consistency. After all, cooking is about personal preference. Do what works for you!
I don’t have condensed milk, what can I use?
Condensed milk adds a nice sweetness to this shake but if you don’t have it at home, sugar works just as well! In my house, we would alternate between condensed milk and sugar depending on the day.
